City Wizard is one of those simple little ideas that make for a surprisingly clever game, though the limited number of tile types may mean some players find it too simple. The game is still challenging with what it has, exacerbated by the fact that you can’t “see into the future” Tetris-style to see what your next tile will be, encouraging conservative play on the typically tiny maps. In the meanwhile, matches will always converge on the last tile you placed to create the new item, so plan accordingly. That’s the key to win a higher score as fast as possible. Another factor to challenge is the Zombie which is widely popular to everyone. Zombies will move around the board blocking tiles, and the only way to kill them is to block them in so they can’t move anywhere. You’ve also got rocks that can’t be combined and must be removed with a lightning strike, and diamonds that, when placed, act as a Joker card of sorts and will turn into whatever tile is closest to them. (If more than one type of tile is touching them, you can manually select the one you want.) You can place one item in the storage container in the top left corner of the screen for later use. Reach the minimum high score before your board fills up and becomes unusable to complete the level and unlock the next. Congratulations! You’re now ready for your high-paying job as a city governmental official. Still, if you want a fun, free browser puzzle to play, City Wizard is worth checking out, and hopefully gets expanded on in the future.

At the start of most levels, you’ll need to use basic graphing skills and coordinates to click and figure out where the gophers will be coming from. You’ll be given a graph and a pair of coordinates that reveal a location on it, and clicking on the proper spot will plot your path. Drag towers and launchers to points along the path where they’ll be able to reach the gophers that trundle towards the carrot.

Towers cost rubies, however, which you’ll need to mouse over when they drop from a rainbowed enemy. If you don’t keep track of the next available drill, you might find yourself out of rubies, and once an area has been mined completely, the drills disappear.

Guess what happens when a shark gets you?
This game is a lot of fun, polished and professional. The key is having to balance your pressure plating, oxygen reserves and battery supply when deciding what to buy but it makes the upgrading somewhat strategic. The lack of a clear end-game is somewhat disappointing; you simply snatch up all the treasure you can and try for a high score (measured in gold). What’s your best score?
